Dont go for food ... it is not bad, but nothing special. Bear River is now the premier apres ski bar at the Steamboat base. RIght on Gondola plaza across from the outdoor stage with a huge patio ... a large bar inside with seating and then a yurt bar out in the middle of the patio ... the biggest issue I have ever had here is that the yurt bar needs 2 to 3 bartenders to keep up with everyone who is needing drinks ... I have been here for private events, meals and apres ski ... overall it is a great place, but don't go expecting great food ... it is bar food at best ... but then after skiing all day the kiddos slurp down the hot chocolate and eat the food like there is no tomorrow ... and you well the drinks disappear as does the food ...

Wow, the wait staff could care less about you if not plain annoyed that you are there. I asked about beers and was told "we have a lot". And then I asked for which ones were light and was asked if I "really" wanted a beer menu. Took 20 mins in an empty place to get a bottle of beer and 3 different people. The "homemade chips were possibly homemade a few years ago and the guac was out of a bag. This was durring the week so they weren't over worked. Just a staff of young kids that obviously didn't want to work. Horrible staff, horrible food. Would expect more from Steamboat.

Ate here for lunch after snowboarding. Got a waitress and ordered up at the top (not down below where u get your food yourself) Got the French onion soup and it was great, the rest of the food was alright.

Bear River Bar & Grill is an okay restaurant with a central location. Therefore, business here is booming more likely because of the location than because of the food. The nachos are a delicious appetizer, but that's really the only dish that stuck out. For my entree, I ordered the French Dip, which is probably one of my favorite sandwiches to eat, and was neither impressed nor displeased; the French Dip here was completely unremarkable. Everyone at our table had similar opinions regarding their dishes. The food is okay, but not great. The service here is also decent, but the servers are all very busy so it seems that mistakes in food delivery are commonplace and that little attention is given to drink refills. We had a fantastic waitress, but everyone could tell that she was constantly in a hurry. I ordered a cup of Clam Chowder, but it never arrived. Another person at our table's meal did not arrive either, and we had to wait quite a while to find someone to help us. To keep things simple, just order an appetizer or two for the table (depending on the size of your party) and then entrees. This will likely prevent these errors from happening. Overall, the food was okay and the service was good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at this place. This restaurant clearly thrives only because of its location.

The music is waaaaay too loud and not always that great. Food was kinda bland and drinks are pretty pricey. The seating has no structure to it. One very big free for all.

Mediocre food, great location. Nothing to complain about service.

Walked in at 5:30 on a Friday evening. Music was loud, but alright. The place was about half full, we sat down at an empty table and after 20 minutes of being walked past and ignored we got up and left. 2 stars because this seemed like a good place for drinks(at the bar) and music(if that's what you are looking for).

Food isn't that great, but it's the place to be when you aren't on the slopes. Right by the lifts, shops, and live music.

Don't get me wrong with this 3 star review, but the bartenders need some attitude. No smiles and grumpy (-1 star). Other than that, the bar was at the bottom of the slopes (Steamboat) between the shops and the Gondola. Plenty of tables and chairs for those tired from a day of snowboarding. There is also a fireplace area in front to warm up and remove the chill. When the beer kegs ran out, they didn't replace them until the next day. Even the Porter was never replaced the 3 days I was there (-1 star). I hope they get their act together, but they probably don't need to since they are in a prime spot. Oh well.

This a tale of two Bars and Grills. In the day time this is perfect place to grab a bite to eat between ski runs and a beers or two. The food is very OK but is right there so like Jason says - location. The staff is friendly inside and there is even an enclosed outside bars that you could almost ski up to it :) At night, this is like the Deliverance bar, all plaid shirt wearing, groungy pants male patrons and the bartendars seemed to be imported from the worst and rudest from South Florida - I waited 15 minutes for a cup of watery beer standing right at the bar and both bartendars ignored me t server their friends or maybe I did not have on the secret code plaid pattern of the day. There was even a band playing that night with a big bass fiddle and and a girl playng the wash board. All in All, I did not feel welcome in here at night and left to check out The Tugboat - get me out of here !!

This is a good place to stop in for a pitcher and some good bar food when you need a snack after hitting the slopes. Other than that, I was not impressed. Our first impression kind of sucked because we walked in and it was absolutely packed - but that wasn't necessarily the problem. The kids -yes kids- (I feel old writing that) running the hostess stand were unorganized and chaotic. I asked if it was OK if we stood near the back entrance to wait since the front was super crowded and they said yes - they'd send someone over to call for us. Well I went up there to check on the status of our table and they said they'd been calling our name for awhile. Plus, the name was erased from their list. Really? I get that it was high season and crowded but that was just bad business. Once seated we only had half the chairs we needed but were able to get some others. Service was decent and the appetizers were pretty good. They had some good beer options on tap, so that was nice. I bet it wouldn't be as hectic if it were another time of year. But it was still frustrating... luckily they sat us anyway regardless of the fact that they couldn't "find us" and erased my name from the list. Oh, and even in all my ski garb I was fa-fa-fa-FREEZING in that place. [Sadface]

Stellar location makes this a popular apres ski spot. Great live music and a huge patio (with heaters for winter hangouts). We had a couple beers and nachos. The nachos were not great, but our expectations were not high. The live music and casual environment were exactly what we were looking for after a long day of skiing.

Popular après ski spot at base of mountain. Arrive before 2pm if you don't want to wait for a table inside. Gets really busy obviously with skiers. The food is average bar food. The service is average. Good news is $3 draft beer. The smuggler - hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps - is really yummy! Indoor seating can accommodate groups and tolerate groups crowding around a single table. A live band played everyday at 3 or 4 ish. Outdoor seating is available on warm days.

Located across from the Gondola, essentially inside the lower level of the Sheraton. This is the restaurant closest to the slopes at the base area of the mountain. Steamboat does not have anything like a traditional base lodge with bathrooms and a cafeteria style eating situation. Those options are on the mountain. Instead it has a faux-village. Bear River is part of that village. It is owned/run by the Steamboat resort, not Sheraton. I ate her once alone, and once with the family. Alone, I got a chicken sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich was good, better than the Gondola pub down the way. The rings were a little heavy, and I i did not eat many of them. My server was great, and kept the water and Diet Coke coming. As a family we had salad, hamburger and chill. Nothing there was poetically great. The Burger was good and I tasted the child and liked it, but my son did not like it at all. (he is a big chili eater--so make of that what you will). The salad was just OK. A good convenient place to eat. Kind of expensive for what you get but then again you are slope side at a resort.

View was awesome service great food was disgusting at best. Burgers tasted like they were freezer burned and old. Wish they would get better quality food maybe try fresh instead of frozen. Most other restaurants in Steamboat manage to have fresh food and at a lesser price. I would not recommend or go back to this business unless they make some major adjustments.

Ate here twice for lunch breaks while skiing. The bison chili is just what I needed and it was pretty good, particularly given I'm not normally a big chili fan. Never a wait and prompt service.

The inside looks like a cafeteria, but the food is decent if not somewhat overpriced. The biggest issue I have is with one of the bartenders. This guy not only lacks any personality, but looks like he's pissed off every time you order a drink. The last time we were in there, he failed to acknowledged us for over 5 minutes even though nobody else was at the bar. We ordered 6 shots of Rumplementz and were told by 2 female employees that if we did a shot ski the shots were 1/2 off. The male bartender told us this didn't apply to Rumplementz even though we saw the female employees nodding that wasn't true.

First day of snowboarding and it's 55 degrees outside. We stop for lunch outside and I'm not interested in eating a hotdog from the grill hut right off the base where we're sitting. So I go inside to find some food and I end up in the Bear River Bar & Grill. I look over the menu and ask the barkeep, "If I get the double bacon cheeseburger and hit the slopes, will I regret it?" "It's a good burger." His logic is sound. So I get my burger and it's taking longer than I expect, but I get it to go and outside and my friends are still waiting on their food from the grill hut. Score 1 for the Bear River Bar. Was it good? Yes. Was it cooked right? Perfectly. Did it hit the spot? Yes. Was it enough? Plenty. Did I regret it.....? No. The burger gave me the energy to hit the slopes for another 2+ hours and the bacon made it taste good. How do you make a bacon cheeseburger taste even better? No, no, you're correct, double bacon. The barkeep was nice and gave me a couple cups of ice for my camelbak and the TV was on so I wasn't bored just waiting for my food. The 3rd day, it snowed and we needed to find a place inside to sit for lunch. I met my friends in the Bear River Bar and needed something to keep me warm so I decided on a bowl of Clam Chowder. For $8, you get about a cup and a half of soup. I said to my friends, "It's hard to believe this is a bowl of soup." and my friend who got a bowl of chili agreed. You get two packs of crackers with it, yes, 4 whole crackers. I asked for more and she brought me 4 more packs. So generous! The soup was excellent, but it wasn't enough and it was $8. Luckily, my friends didn't eat their fries and I had a whole mess of them and that held me til dinner. Service was good and the place was setting up for some live music but I certainly wasn't going to sit around when I could be outside catching big air in the pipe. I'd go back, but I'm not particularly happy about the prices, but considering other places on the slopes, this is about average for any restaurant on a ski mountain, so I can't count that against them.

It's really all about location here- you can almost literally ski in for a quick beer after your last run before they shoo you out (they apparently close at 6 at least on Thursday- there did not seem to be the same issue Friday but we did not stick around long enough to find out). We never could get a table outside (where the live music is) but that was fine because we were watching college basketball tournament play inside anyway. The "homemade guacamole" on the menu is not really homemade but was not the worst I've ever had, it just tastes "bottled." The chicken wings were good enough- that's the deal here- bar food only. The servers were cheerful and always quite busy because of the crowd but were always happy to help. The humorous part to us is the volume of old-timers ferrying shots from the bar to their friends. They put us to shame. Just keep in mind you're here to kick your legs up for a few, soak in the view of the mountain as the sun starts setting, and head out for your evening plans-- not for the food. As long as you put this place in perspective, it is alright.

Location and plentiful live music are the only things this place has going for it really. Mediocre food and very poor wait service. It's location at the base of Steamboat's ski resort means wait staff should know how to handle large crowds and peak busy hours, but each day we sat waiting to order food and drink and dirty dishes were left stacking up on our table.
